Frank Theodore Hornung, 93, of Royal Oak since 1941, died Monday, April 18, 2005, in William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. He was born Dec. 13, 1911, in Mishawaka, Ind. He attended Mishawaka High School and was a member of St Joseph Parish Mr. Hornung retired from Chrysler Corp. as an accountant in 1977. He served as Scoutmaster at Royal Oak St. Mary's Parish before becoming a very active founding member of St. Dennis Catholic Parish in Royal Oak. Frank organized the Holy Name Society, the St. Vincent DePaul Society, served as President of the Usher's Club and sang in the choir. Frank also played an important role in the founding of the St. Dennis Credit Union: he was elected to the board of directors, and was president for a time He was involved with his sons in boy scouting and camping but left the girl scouting to his wife. Other hobbies were enjoyed gardening and sports. He was a loyal University of Notre Dame fan. Surviving are his wife, Colette R. (Gerstbauer) Hornung; children, Thomas (Susan) Hornung of Birmingham, Carolyn Wenner of Huntington Woods, Jerry (Barbara) Hornung of Highland Township, Robert (Cathy) Hornung of Utica, Christine (Jim) Russo of Ann Arbor, Kenneth (Dona) Hornung of Clearwater, Fla., Ronald (Cindy) Hornung of Midland, Theodore Hornung of Mesa, Ariz., Mary (Kevin) Noel of Chandler, Ariz., and Jean (Brent) Starr of Tempe, Ariz.; sister, Isabelle Seymour of Mishawaka, Ind., 30 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated on Friday, April 21, in St. Dennis Catholic Church, 12 Mile at Stephenson Highway, Royal Oak; burial was at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery, Troy. A contribution to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or the charity of your choice would be a fitting way to honor Frank's life.
