We celebrate the life of John H. Horning Jr., aka Horndauwgh, of 53420 Peggy Avenue, South Bend, Indiana. John passed away on Monday, September 20, in Elkhart General Hospital from complications of an illness. John was born on June 30, 1956, in South Bend, to Mary Jane Horning and the late John H. Horning. John, a proud local businessman, was the owner of Horning Associates. He was a lifelong South Bend resident. On December 13, 1980, in Lakeville, Indiana, he married Lisa K. Rowe, who survives. He is also survived by a son, Jay Paul Horning; two sisters, Janis Hopper of Niles, Michigan, and Carole (Steve) Blankenbaker of South Bend; two nieces, Stephanie and Sarah; and two nephews, Brian and Michael. John was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Claude (Big Daddy) and Mary L. (Honey) Zollinger; and paternal grandparents, John A. (Bobo) and Bertha (Nanny) Horning. John graduated from Clay High School in 1974 and from Indiana University with a degree in Business. He entered the family business in 1980. HD was an avid music buff. He was the founder of the local Nada Dart League. Thursday night was always memorable and he will be greatly missed by his teammates. He loved his family, his friends, his home, his pets, yard work, the pond and IU basketball. John was a very involved in his son's schooling and sporting events and spent many volunteer hours helping students and others achieve their fullest potential. He was the "idea" man. He was determined, strong-willed, opinionated and a very proud American. His energy, cleverness, laughter, and enthusiasm will be greatly missed and we will never forget his knowledgeable and animated long-winded explanations on any given subject. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 23, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home. Comfortable Dress (colorful attire encouraged). Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or to the Clay High School Booster Club. |
