John H. Horning
Oct. 9, 1931 - Feb. 21, 2000
John H. Horning, 68, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother of Paul's Way, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an illness on Monday, Feb. 21, in his home.
Mr. Horning was born on Oct. 9, 1931, in South Bend, to the late John A. Horn-ing and Bertha C. Peltz. Mr. Horning was the former owner of John A. Horning Associates, retiring in 1992, and was a lifelong South Bend resident.
On Oct. 13, 1951, in Norfolk, Va., he married Mary Jane Zollinger, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Janis Hopper of Niles, Mich., and Carole (Steve) Blankenbaker of South Bend; a son, John H. (Lisa) Horning, Jr., of South Bend; five grandchildren, Brian and Stephanie Hopper, Sarah and Michael Blankenbaker, and Jay Horning; two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Lily; four sisters, Mary Fields of South Bend, Betty Crosiar of South Bend, Sue Beliveau of Florida and Mary Mrozek of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, James A. and Donald N. Horning of South Bend; and by his mother-in-law, Mary L. Zollinger of South Bend.
Mr. Horning was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, an avid antique car collector, a member of the Pioneer Auto Association of South Bend and the Elkhart Vintage Auto Club, and many other civic and social organizations. He graduated from Central High School, class of 1949, and attended Western Michigan College.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 23, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home.
