Evelyn C. Horning
July 26, 1909 -- July 5, 2004
Evelyn C. Horning, 94, of South Bend, Ind., and formerly of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away Monday evening, July 5, in the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility.
She was born on July 26, 1909, in Mishawaka, a daughter of Andrew and Bertha (Thallemer) Horning. She graduated from St. Joseph Grade School in Mishawaka, and shortly after went to work at Ball Band which later was Uniroyal. Evelyn retired from there after many years of employment. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Evelyn enjoyed ceramics, bowling and reading. Evelyn was known as "Smiles" at Healthwin as she would sit in her wheelchair at the entrance and greet visitors with a big smile. She is survived by a sister, Geraldine Hennion of St. Paul's Retirement Community in South Bend, and by several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Francis Horning; and by a sister, Elvira Wagner.
Friends and family may call on Friday from noon to 1 p.m. in the Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. Third St., Mishawaka. A prayer service will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Yast officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
