SOUTH BEND -- Calvin W. Horein, 90,
of Madison Road, South Bend, died at 8:15 a.m. Friday, December
15, 2006, in his home. He was born on December 23, 1915, in
Madison Township, to Walter and Edna (Schutz) Horein.
Calvin was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther Heinke,
Pearl Smith and Evelyn Mark.
On August 26, 1945, in St. Paul's
Lutheran-Woodland Church he married Alice Heinke. She survives
along with four children, Don (Cathy) Horein of Watkins Glen, NY,
Eileen (Bruce) Rickman of Columbia, SC, Roger (Cathie)
Horein of South Bend and Anita F. Singhal of Mishawaka,
IN. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
He was a loving husband, father and
grandfather. His love for his family, church, country and the
land were evident by 61 years of marriage and his lifelong love
for the church where he had participated in the church choir,
sang in quartets and had been the church soloist. On the farm
that he and Alice shared, he raised his four children, produced
bounty from the land, and raised farm animals. When Calvin and
Alice were newly married, he was serving his country in the U.S.
Air Force at Langley Field in Hampton, Virginia. He was honorably
discharged from the service in 1946.
