OSCEOLA - Lawrence E. "Larry" Hook Jr., 60, of
Osceola, died at 5:50 a.m. Thursday in his home. He was born
January 20, 1948, in South Bend, to Lawrence E. and Genevieve (DeBowe)
Hook Sr. He had retired from A.M. General on January 1, 2000,
after working there for 32 years. He was married to Terri L. Wise,
who preceded him in death on May 19, 1988. On July 7, 1980, he
married Margaret E. (Haymaker) Hurley in Elkhart,
IN. He was a member of the Osceola American Legion Post #308. He
enjoyed camping, NASCAR, fixing old tractors and golf carts, and
working on cars. Survivors include his wife, Margaret E.;
daughters, Barbara A. Hook of Elkhart, Lori A. Phillips
(Todd Baker) and Margaret A. "Margo" Hook, both
of Osceola, and Heather A. Hook (Adam Freeman) of
Mishawaka; a stepson, William Anthony "Tony" (Karin)
Hurley of Los Alamos, CA; stepdaughters, Norma L. Shaffer
(Todd Breden) of Elkhart, Cathy L. (Gary) Thomas of
Plymouth and Linda S. (David) Hancock of Gallagher, W.Va.;
22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Jacqueline
Clark of Logansport, IN, and Kay F. Culp of
Mishawaka; brothers, Jimmy Lee (Gaylyn) Hook of Edwardsburg and
Steve T. Hook and Charles F. (Susie) Hook, both of Mishawaka.
Besides his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death
by a sister, Margaret Hook; a grandson, David A. Hancock Jr.; and
great-grandson, Baby Hurley.
A celebration of Lawrence's life will be
held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2008, in his home,
11516 Third Street in Osceola, IN. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Elkhart Cremation Services, 2100 W. Franklin Street, Elkhart, IN,
is assisting the family with arrangements. Cremation will take
place at Elkhart Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice &
Palliative Care, to the Elkhart County Humane Society or to Pet
Refuge.
