Guy W. Hood, 84, of Jefferson Road,
Osceola, Ind., died after a brief confinement at 7:43 a.m. on
Thursday, Dec. 24, at St. Joseph Community Hospital Mishawaka,
Ind. Guy was born on Dec. 6, 1914, in Chicago, Ill., to Guy W.
Hood, Sr. and Alice (Wilson) Hood.
On Nov. 7, 1936, he married Clementine Exaver,
who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Carol
(John) McNamara of South Bend, Ind., B.J. (Bob) O'Brien
and Betty Sue Whitson both of Osceola; a son, Jack (Sally)
Hood of Osceola; a sister, Alice W. Holtz of Elkhart,
Ind.; 16 grandchildren, Jennifer O'Brien-Wilson, Betsy
O'Brien-Tackett, John O'Brien, Amy O'Brien, Molly O'Brien-Bultinick,
Robin Hood, Dan Hood, Tom Whitson, Amy Whitson-Jones, Ann
Whiston-Blasko, Kevin McNamara, Patrick McNamara, Kerry
McNamara-Murawski, Kelly McNamara-O'Brien and Megan
McNamara; 21 great grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hood was the owner of Hood's Nursery in
Osceola for many years. He was a member of the Mishawka Lions
Club, Morris Park Country Club, Charter member of Queen of Peace
Parish, Battell Center Bridge Club and the Indiana Club Couples
Bridge Group. Guy signed to play professional baseball in 1934,
but an industrial accident at Ballband over the winter cost him
and arm an a shot at the Big Leagues. Despite what some might
call a handicap, Guy went on to become one of the areas best
umpires and a good golfer with several Holes-In-One. Perhaps the
biggest impact he had in his life was that of grandfather to
sixteen. He would take them all to movies, ball games or to the
park. In 1976, Guy was awarded - A George award by the Mishawaka
enterprise Record.
Friends may call Chapel Hill Funeral Home
from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today. Rosary services will be at
7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at
Queen of Peace Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Queen of Peace Church School Fund.
