SOUTH BEND - Anthony J. Holthaus, 89, of Milton Home, formerly of St. Paul's Retirement Community, died at 11:07 a.m. Sunday in Healthwin Hospital and Nursing Home. Mr. Holthaus retired in 1973 from Wisconsin Gas Co. as manager of the meter division after 12 years of service and also was employed by Illinois Power Co. for 35 years.

He was born Dec. 14, 1905, in Beckemeyer, Ill., and lived in South Bend since 1973. On June 23, 1931, in Centralia, Ill., he married Catherine E. Carney. She died Dec. 21, 1988. He is survived by two daughters, Sarah A. Mueller of South Bend and Margaret Holthaus Brockway of Oakland, Calif.; a son, Thomas J. of Rainier, Wash.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was a member of Gasco Retirees, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and Harvest of House of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before services Wednesday in the church. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
