Oct. 20, 1928 - Jan. 29, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Margaret M. Holbrook, 81, of South Bend, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Friday, January 29th, in Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Margaret was born on October 20, 1928, in Sterling, IL, and had resided in South Bend since 1965, coming from Amboy, IL. On December 18, 1946, as Margaret M. Buchanan, she married Wilbur J. Holbrook, who preceded her in death on November 11, 1988. Mrs. Holbrook is survived by a daughter, Doris M. (Ray) Martens of South Bend; and by two sons, Roger A. Holbrook and Gregory L. Holbrook, both of South Bend; also four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished; and a brother, Edwin R. Buchanan of Charleston, IL. Margaret retired from the former Dutchman Restaurant in 1978 as a waitress. She loved cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband and by a son, Bruce E. Holbrook, on November 2, 2008. When it's time to travel there, I think I'll wear a smile, I'll say goodbye to those I Love, But only for a while, Knowing there are others Who have traveled there alone, Who cannot wait to greet me And whisper "welcome home." The family request that all memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to Riley Children's Hospital, 702 Barnhill Drive, Room 5900, Indianapolis, IN 46202-2189. Margaret's wishes were to be cremated, which were honored by her loving family. A memorial service will take place Saturday, Feb. 6th, at 2 p.m. in the HANLEY & Sons Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service time. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN. The HANLEY & Sons Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road and Indiana 23, South Bend, handled arrangements and services and extends it deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Holbrook family.
