Treva Irene Hoffman

SOUTH BEND - Treva Irene Hoffman, residing in South Bend,
passed away at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008, in her home at the
age of 96. She was born May 14, 1912, in Nappanee, IN, to Ervin
and Cora E. (Schalliol) Hygema, and had remained a
lifelong resident of this area.
On December 27, 1930, in Nappanee, she and
George A. Hoffman were united in married by her grandfather, Rev.
David Hygema. Mr. Hoffman passed away June 9, 1989. Two sisters,
Fern Feitz and Mabel Annis, and four brothers,
Clyde, Donald, Kenneth and Ervin Hygema, also preceded her in
death. Mrs. Hoffman retired in 1977 from the Ristance Corp. and
had formerly been employed with Woolworth's as well. She was a
longtime active member of St. John United Church of Christ,
Woodland. Two daughters, Evelyn Penrod of Lakeville,
Phyllis and Larry Schafer of South Bend, and a son,
Duwaine and Yvonne Hoffman of South Bend, survive Mrs. Hoffman.
Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and
nine great-great-grandchildren. A sister, Erma Miller of
South Bend, survives Treva as well.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June
5th, in St. John United Church of Christ, Woodland. Rev. Jo An
Schaetzle, pastor, will officiate. Graveside services and burial
will follow at St. John's Cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral
Home-Lakeville, 314 South Michigan Street, Lakeville, and one
hour prior to services Thursday in the church. Contributions in
memory of Mrs. Hoffman may be made to St. John United Church of
Christ, P.O. Box 835, Wyatt, IN 46595.
