Patricia Joan Hoban, 67, of 205 N.
St. Louis Blvd., South Bend, Ind., passed away following an
extended illness the morning of Tuesday, January 12. Patty was
born on Aug. 10, 1931 to Marguerite and the late Glen Handshaw
in Kalamazoo, Mich. She practiced and taught surgical nursing
respectively at St. Joseph's Hospital of South Bend and at the
Holy Cross Nursing School until 1958 after receiving her BSN from
St. Mary's College. She was also a long time member of St.
Joseph's Parish in South Bend and a member of the ladies
auxiliary of the South Bend Ancient Order of Hibernians.
On Aug. 24, 1957, as Patricia J. Handshaw,
she married Maurice J. Hoban and together they raised six
children: Maurice J. Hoban, Jr. of South Bend, Bridget Hoban O'Meara
of Indianapolis, Ind., Thomas X. Hoban of Chicago, Ill., Peggy
Hoban Halvorsen of Seattle, Wash., John L. Hoban of South
Bend and Timothy K. Hoban of South Bend. In addition to her
husband, mother and children, she is survived by a sister,
Marilyn Andrzejewski of Mishawaka, Ind.; a brother, Bob
Handshaw of Benton Harbor, Mich.; and nine grandchildren, Anna,
Michael, Maura, Fiora, Sarah, Cody, Lizzy, Isaiah and Connor.
Other close surviving relatives include nephews, M. Patrick Hoban
and J. Michael Hoban; and a niece, Mary Hoban Ricci.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 5 and 6
to 8 p.m. today in the McGann Funeral Home, 2313 E. Edison Road,
where a Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be
celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph's Church in South
Bend with burial following at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame.
