JESSE HIVELY
Jesse Hively, 72, of 822 E. Milton St., was
found dead at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday of the roof of a chicken coop he
was repairing on a farm at 2332 N. Hollyhock Rd. Dr. Edward S.
Shelley, St. Joseph County coroner, said death apparently was due
to a heart attack. Sheriff's deputies said the man was found by
Dewey McCormick, Hively's son-in-law about a half hour after
Hively had begun repairing shingles on the roof of the coop.
A retired electrical engineer, Hively was born in
Teagarden, Ind., June 30, 1883. He came to South Bend 48 years
ago from La Paz Ind. On June 8, 1902, he married Edith Pearl
Marks, of Teagarden, who survives. Also surviving are four
daughters, Mrs. McCormick, Mrs. David Roose of South Bend, Mrs.
Eldon Carbiener of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Edward Frie of
Osceola, and a brother, Elmer Hively of South Bend. He is also
survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home
after 7 p.m. today until 2 p.m. Friday when serviced will be
conducted there by Dr. Edward Stump of the Osceola Church of the
Brethren. Burial will be in the Southlawn Cemetery.
