SOUTH BEND - Walter Leroy Hill, 82, of 1107 S. 31st St., died at 10:30 p.m. Friday in his home after an illness. Mr. Hill retired in 1987 from A.M. General Corp.

He was born May 1, 1913, in Shipshewana and had lived in South Bend since 1960. On May 24, 1941, in Crown Point, Ind., he married Viola A. Mast. She survives with a daughter, Peggy M. Schultz of Mishawaka; two sons, Gene A. of Syracuse and Jerry L. of Mishawaka; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Dorothy Swinehart of New Paris and Effie Hickman of Syracuse; and a brother, John of Indiana.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola. Entombment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc.
