SOUTH BEND - Bertha Mae Hill, beloved mother and grandmother,
went home to glory on January 26, 2010, at Morningside Memory
Care. Bertha was born to the union of the late Eli and Emma Lee
(Powell) Jarrett on June 11, 1928, in Brownsville, Tennessee. In
1946 Bertha united in holy matrimony with Joseph Hill. Bertha was
employed at Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She
retired after 30 years of service. Bertha enjoyed working in her
yard, doing gardening and walking around town. When friends asked
if she would like a ride, Bertha would reply "No, I need the
exercise." Bertha was an active member of Faith Temple
Church of God in Christ. She was known to the members as
"Mother Hill." Bertha leaves to cherish her memory six
daughters, Joe Ann Hill, Mary (Troy) Tucker, Peggy (Robert)
House, Fannie (Cid) Whetstone, Robin (Wallace) Wilson and Towanda
Hill; one special daughter-in-law, Rue Nell Hill; and
sister-in-law, Dorothy Hill; two sons, Larry D. Hill and Willie
T. Hill; aunts, Fannie Lou Jarrett and Bernadine Sutton; 22
grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren. Bertha was preceded in death by her
mother, Emma Lee Powell Jarrett; daughter, Bertha Lou Hill;
husband, Joseph Hill; father, Eli Jarrett; son, Monte I. Hill;
grandson, Anthony L. Hill; granddaughter, Joe Ann Woods; brother,
James Mills; and a great-grandson, Rodney Hill Jr. Services for
Bertha Mae Hill will be held on Monday, Feb. 1st; visitation at
11 a.m., funeral services at noon in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral
Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has
been entrusted with the arrangements.
