WALKERTON, IN Walter J. Hiler,
80, of 603 Monroe Street, Walkerton, Ind., passed away after an
illness on Sunday, Nov. 17, in the Catherine Kasper Home,
Donaldson, Ind. Mr. Hiler was born March 25, 1922, in Walkerton,
to Thomas and Jenny (Lehman) Hiler, and lived his entire
life in Walkerton.
He was a former employee of Medusa/Vulcan
Sand & Gravel of South Bend, Ind., was a U.S. Army veteran of
World War II, was a recipient of a Purple Heart and Bronze Star,
and was a member of the Walkerton IOOF Lodge and the Operating
Engineer's Local 150 of Countryside, Ill.
On Aug. 9, 1942, in Defiance, Ohio, he was
married to the former Mary Grimm, who preceded him in
death. He is survived by a daughter, Judith Hiler of Walkerton;
two sons, Joseph and Thomas Hiler, both of Walkerton; four
grandchildren, Rhonda (Randy) Corbett, Daniel, Heather and
Thomas Hiler; and by three great-grandchildren, Mandy, Kayla and
Derek.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. EST
Thursday in the Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel, with
Pastor D.O. VanDyne officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn
Cemetery, Walkerton. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. EST
Wednesday and one hour before services on Thursday in the funeral
home.
