OSCEOLA - Virginia M. (Mikel) Higginson, 85, formerly of
Osceola, died Sunday, Dec. 16th, in Elkhart General Hospital. She
was born on January 15, 1922, in Seymour, Indiana, to George Mikel
of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Mabel (Williams) Mikel of
Seymour, Indiana.
She married Edward Higginson of Mishawaka,
Indiana, on July 1, 1939. He preceded her in death on November
23, 2002. Surviving are three children, Col. George (Ellie)
Higginson of Grand Ledge, Michigan, Paul (Vicki) Higginson of
Mishawaka and Venetta (Hubert) Lowry of Elkhart, Indiana;
five grandsons, Lee Lowry, Mark Lowry and Curtis Lowry, all of
Elkhart, James Higginson of Osceola and Joseph Higginson of
Greenwood, Indiana; seven great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her
parents; two brothers, Francis "Bud" Mikel of
Indianapolis and Earl Mikel of Mishawaka; two sisters, Geneva Rogers
of Elkhart and Pearl Mikel of Mishawaka; and one grandson, David
Lowry of Elkhart. She retired from CTS Corporation of Elkhart
after 35 years of service.
Friends may visit with the family from 6 to
8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19th, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N.
Main St., Mishawaka. Funeral services for Virginia will be held
at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20th, in the funeral chapel. Burial is
to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
