SOUTH BEND - Beulah Margaret Higbee, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away peacefully at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, December 27, 2009, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 66 years old. She was born April 7, 1943, in Elkhart, IN, a daughter of Dudley and Ruth (Brown) Meyers. On May 23, 1964, in South Bend, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Richard Lee Higbee Sr., who preceded her in death on May 28, 2000. She was also preceded by a sister, Beverly Scott; two brothers, Butch and Sonny Meyers; her father, Dudley Meyers; her mother and stepfather, Ruth and Stan Scearce; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alvin and Irene Higbee Sr.; and brother-in-law, Alvin Higbee. Beulah retired as a cook at Cira's Restaurant following more than 17 years of faithful service. She was a life member of Clay Twp. Democratic Club where she served as Treasurer for more than 20 years. She was a former member of the Red Hat Society. She is survived by two daughters, Michele (Clarence) Lewis of Fort Wayne, IN, Wendy (Darrell) Cauffman of South Bend; a son, Richard (Kali Curtis) Higbee Jr. of Osceola, IN; 10 grandchildren, Faye Higbee, Thomas Bloss Jr., Stephanie Higbee, Ashley Papoi, Ricky Higbee, Tim Bloss, Jessica Higbee, Heather Lewis, Kayla Cauffman and David Higbee-Smith; four great-grandchildren, Carter, Ayden, Abby and Julian. Also surviving Beulah are five sisters, Peachy (Terry) Smith of Niles, MI, Barbara (Ron) Peltz of South Bend, Harriett (Curt) Woolley of Granger, Patricia Beach and Edie Pipke, both of South Bend. Her in-laws include June Higbee of South Bend, Joan Riggs of South Bend, Nellie (Hank) Moore of Mishawaka, Gene Higbee of Argos, IN, Dianne (Ernie) Perkins of South Bend and Barb Lopez of Mishawaka. Memorial services celebrating the life of Beulah Higbee will be at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Andy Kaser will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
