Mary Margaret Hicks, 77, of Powderhorn Circle, South Bend, Ind., passed away of natural causes at 11:58 p.m. Monday, April 28, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Mrs. Hicks was born March 1, 1926, to Axel and Lucille (Jenkins) Peterson in Gary, Ind.

On Nov. 23, 1950, the former Ms. Peterson married Albert Hicks in South Bend. He survives.

She is also survived by her children, James W. Hicks, Charles A. Hicks and Kathleen G. Wagner, all of South Bend; a sister, Alice Smedly of South Bend; six grandchildren, Heather Clark, Laurie Wagner, Mark Wagner, Billy Britain, Melissa Hicks and Nicole Hicks; and by eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her brothers, John and William Peterson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, with interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Mrs. Hicks was a 1944 graduate of Moosehart High School in Aurora, Ill. She was employed by Bell Telephone as an operator for 38 years until her retirement in 1986. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
