SOUTH BEND - Albert Hicks Jr., 86, of South Bend, passed
away at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, in Saint Joseph
Regional Medical Center. Albert was born on September 9, 1921, in
Christopher, IL, to the late Albert and Lula M. (Springer)
Hicks.
On November 23, 1950, he married Mary
Margaret Peterson. She passed on April 28, 2003. He was
also preceded in death by three brothers, Alton, William and
James Hicks, and two sisters, Lula Jones and Irene Warner.
He is survived by three children, Kathleen G. (James) Wagner,
James W. Hicks and Charles (Bonnie) Hicks, all of South Bend; six
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by
a sister, Margariette Stickler of Mishawaka. Albert
proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII.
He became honorably discharged in 1946 after obtaining the rank
of sergeant. During his tour, he was a P.O.W. He worked for
Studebaker and Home Plumbing & Heating. He was a member of
the V.F.W., American Legion Post 284, and was a lifetime member
of the Marine Corps League.
Funeral services will be held at noon
Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776
McKinley Highway, Osceola, with two hours of visitation prior to
the services. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens,
with full military honors.
