Virginia Belle Hickey

Virginia Belle Hickey passed away on Friday morning in Dujarie House at Holy Cross Village.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas L. Hickey who died in Dec. 11, 2003.
She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Hatcher of Glen Ellyn, Ill., Margaret Hickey of South Bend and Nancy Hickey of Mishawaka; and two sons, Thomas L. Hickey III and Terrence E. Hickey, both of South Bend.
Virginia was born in South Bend and lived here all her life. She graduated from Central High School and attended Business College.
She was active in many clubs and organizations. She is past president of the Coquillard Woods Garden Club, and is a charter member of the Christ Child Society. She was a member of the auxiliaries at Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph Medical Center, where she volunteered for over 30 years. She was an active officer in the Hickey Funeral Homes. She was proud of this being a family owned business.
She loved her family and enjoyed hosting family celebrations. She had many friends and was known for her wonderful personality and sense of humor. She enjoyed traveling and gardening. She had many fond memories of family vacations and going to dances with her husband.
We want to thank the staff at Dujarie House for their wonderful care of mom. We also want to thank her kind physicians and nurses who took great care of her. We want to give a special thanks to her other caregivers, Teresa, Midge and Cindy. All of them are our angels.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christ Child Society, 1124 W. Thomas or Hospice of St. Joseph County of to the charity of your choice.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the St. Joseph Chapel on the Holy Cross College Campus. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Valley memorial Park, Granger.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road.
