Sister M. Paschal Hickey

Sister M. Paschal (Helen Gertrude Hickey), 93, died on Thursday, Jan. 13, in Saint Mary's Convent, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind.
Sister M. Paschal was born on Jan. 2, 1907, to the late Callistus Francis Hickey and Mary Elizabeth Taylor Hickey. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at Saint Mary's on Jan. 29, 1923, from Baltimore, Md., and made final profession in the Congregation on Aug. 15, 1928.
Sister M. Paschal is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Patricia Kasper of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Homer W. Bryant of Charleston, S.C.
Sister M. Paschal began her teaching ministry at Blessed Sacrament, Washington, D.C., in 1927. She remained teaching in elementary schools in New York, Indiana and Maryland. Sister was principal and taught from 1939 until 1980. For two of those years she was also Elementary School supervisor in Maryland. Sister was a tutor in elementary education at Saint Bernard's School in Riverdale, Md., in 1980-1983. She retired to Saint Angela Hall, Kensington, Md., in 1983, where she joined the Prayer Apostolate. In 1994 Sister Paschal was moved to Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, where she resided until her death on January 13.
Wake services were held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. today, Jan. 15, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, followed by interment at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame.
