Obituary: Robert L. Hickey

Oct. 22, 1931 -- Dec. 4, 2003

Robert L. Hickey, 72, of Fellows Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 6:55 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

Bob was born on Oct. 22, 1931, in South Bend, to the late Anthony and Barbara (Tschida) Hickey. On June 8, 1957, in South Bend, he married the former Nancy Dunlap, who survives. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Nash, and a brother, Donald Hickey.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Nancy; one daughter, Cindy (Kenneth) Janiak of South Bend; one son, Stephen (Michele) Hickey of Hilton, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Renee Janiak, Jessica Hickey, Whitney Hickey and Dylan Hickey; three sisters, Leona Kreighbaum of Plymouth, Ind., Millie Allan of Haven, Kan., and Barbara Underwood of Centerville, Ohio; and by six brothers, Thomas Hickey of Apple Valley, Calif., George Hickey of LaVergne, Tenn., Edward Hickey of Mishawaka, Ind., and Kenneth Hickey of Nampa, Idaho, Dennis Hickey of South Bend and Eugene Hickey of Lakeland, Fla.

Bob was a lifetime area resident. He retired from Fairmont Homes, Nappanee, Ind., in 2003. He proudly served his country in the Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post #303. His love for bulldogs will never be forgotten.

A private family service will be held for Mr. Hickey. The Palmer Funeral Home, Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, is assisting the family with arrangements.
