South Bend – Brother Fernand “James” Hickey CSC, 70, died Monday in St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka. Brother Hickey was born Feb. 25, 1921 in Beach Grove, Ind. He is survived by three sisters, Sister Mary E. Hickey, SP, of St. Mary of the Woods, Ind., Martha Dalton and Loretta G. Sweeney, both of Indianapolis; and five brothers, John of Lawrence, Ind., Brother Timothy, CSC, of New Orleans, V. Robert of Albien, Mich., Russell of Indianapolis and Joseph of Mequoin, Wis.
Brother Hickey entered the Congregation of Holy Cross on Aug. 15, 1942, professed his vows on Aug. 16, 1943; and made his final profession on Aug. 16, 1947. He was assigned to Ave Maria Press, Notre Dame, and served at Gibault School for Boys. Terre Haute, Ind., Holy Cross House, Notre Dame, Boysville of Michigan, St. Mary College, Notre Dame and Columba Hall, Notre Dame.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Holy Cross Brothers’ Center. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the Brothers’ Center, where a wake will be held at 7:30 p.m. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
