Adrian P. "Pat" Hickey, 82, a former South Bend resident, died on Monday, Nov. 1, at the Maryhaven Nursing Home, Glenview, Ill.
Pat was born on Oct. 9, 1917, in Auburn, N.Y., to Frank and Margaret (Daly) Hickey. He married Francis Utecht on Jan. 31, 1945, in South Bend, Ind., and she preceded him in death on July 5, 1986.
He is survived by a son, Don Hickey of Castlebury, Fla.; three daughters, Patricia A. Hickey of Chicago, Ill., Daly Colwell of Joliet, Ill., and Sheila Hickey of Springfield, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Brianne Hickey, Meghanne Hickey, Eamon Colwell, Stacey Colwell and Keely Colwell; and by two brothers, Joseph Hickey and Robert Hickey, and a sister, Mary Specksgore, all of Rochester, N.Y.
Adrian retired from the State of Indiana Highway Department. He had also served as a probation officer for the City of South Bend, as a chief deputy sheriff of St. Joseph County, Ind., and was the assistant prefect of discipline at the University of Notre Dame in the 1960s. He received a law degree from the University of Notre Dame. He served as a second lieutenant with the Calvary during World War II.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, in St. Matthew Cathedral, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend. Burial will take place in Southlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 4, at the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, where a Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.
The family asks that any memorial contributions in Adrian's name be made to either the Maryhaven Nursing Home, 1700 East Lake, Glenview, IL 60025; or to the Palliative Care Center of the North Shore, 2821 Central Street, Evanston, IL 60201-1221.
