SOUTH BEND - Mary Hesser, 98, of South Bend, passed away on
Monday, February 1, 2010, at her son's residence in Mishawaka
surrounded by her loving family at her bedside. Mary was born on
January 17, 1912, in Summum, IL, to the late John Emery and
Bertha (Weese) Baker. As the former Mary Baker, she married
Russell R. Hesser on March 8, 1936, in South Bend. Russell and
Mary shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. Russell passed away
on September 24, 1989. Survivors include her four children, Joan
Forslund of South Bend, Mary Lou (Ken) Fleishaker of Ramsey, New
Jersey, Richard (Ruth) Hesser of Mishawaka and Cheryl Barker of
South Bend. Mary was a loving and caring grandmother to five
grandchildren, John (Candace) Forslund, Jay (Christine Forslund,
both from Mishawaka, Jerry Forslund, Melissa (Kevin) Davis, both
from South Bend, and Darleen (Jamey) Minix of Elkhart. Mary was
also a great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren, Shane,
Evan, Eric, Ian, Seth, Leah, Spencer, Caitlin and Dallis. Also
surviving is her sister-in-law, Irma Schultheis of South Bend.
Mary was preceded in death by 14 siblings. Mary was a loving and
caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed baking and
cooking for her family. She was a member of the Viking Club, and
she played Euchre with her friends for over 40 years. The family
will receive friends on Wednesday, February 3rd, from 4-8 p.m. in
the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. The funeral
service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 4th, in the
funeral home. Burial is to follow the service at the St. Joseph
Valley Memorial Park in Granger. Memorial contributions may be
