SOUTH BEND - Sister M. Ivan Hertel, CSC, 94, of Saint Mary's Annex, died about 11:05 p.m. Saturday in her residence after an illness. Sister M. Ivan was born May 20, 1900, in Grayslake, Ill., as Cecilia Mary Hertel.

She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on July 26, 1918, became a novice Aug. 15, 1919, and professed her vows Aug. 15, 1921. She was assigned to teaching in secondary schools in South Bend, Hammond and Anderson in Indiana, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles and Morrison, Ill. She is survived by three sisters, Angela Danch of South Bend, and Sister M. John Michael and Sister Clarie Marie, both of Saint Mary's; and a brother, Norbert Hertel of Portland, Ore.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday in the church.
