Kathryn I. Herring, 61, of Kendall Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 1, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Mrs. Herring was born on June 17, 1939, in Ephrata, Wash., as the daughter of the late Orville and Dorothea (Wray) Shepherd. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia McNabb; and by two brothers, Elonzo Shepherd and Robert Shepherd.

As the former Kathryn Shepherd she married George Herring, who preceded her in death in 1970.

Mrs. Herring leaves to cherish her memories her longtime companion, James E. Williams of South Bend; two daughters, Jacki Stoops of Lake Wales, Fla., and Kari Kay of South Bend; four sons, James (Hyona) Shedd of San Francisco, Calif., John (Jeanne) Shedd of Lakewood, N.Y., Bret Herring and Bart Williams, both of South Bend; four grandchildren; two sisters, Beverly Brown of Mahomet, Ill., and Wanda Priest of Crawfordsville, Ind.; and by a brother, Donald Shepherd of Batavia, Ohio. Mrs. Herring was a claims secretary for Johnson Claims Service.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 3, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 West 8th Street, Mishawaka, Ind. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, in the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Burkhart officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Herring may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
