Jessie E. Herndon, 72, of 61971 U.S.
31 South, died at Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Jan. 11,
following an illness. Mr. Herndon was a machinist for the Bendix
Corporation, retiring in March, 1989. He was born in Troy, Miss.,
to Glover and Myrtle Herndon, who both preceded him in death.
In October of 1946, Mr. Herndon married the
former Myrtis Baulch, who survives. He is also survived by
three sons, Danny Herndon of Walkerton, Ind., Jimmy Herndon and
Ricky Herndon, both of South Bend, Ind.; one daughter, Brenda Eaton
of South Bend; 17 grandchildren; two brothers, Bobby Herndon of
Memphis, Tenn., and G. A. Herndon of Shannon, Miss.; three
sisters, Shirley Armstrong of Shannon, Miss., Jean Brea
of Memphis, Tenn., and Sadie Hester of Anguilla, Miss.;
along with several nieces and nephews. Preceding Mr. Herndon in
death were a step-mother, Alma Herndon of Shannon, Miss., and a
brother, Billy Herndon of Nelleton, Miss. Mr. Herndon was a
former member of VFW Post 360 in Mishawaka, Ind.
Services for Mr. Herndon will be held at 1
p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola,
Ind. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the
funeral home.
