SOUTH BEND - Jose Hernandez, Jr., 53, of South Bend, passed away at 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Mr. Hernandez was born on June 6, 1955 in Del Rio, TX to the late Jose and Angela (Felan) Hernandez, Sr. He lived in South Bend most of his life.

On December 27, 1975, in South Bend, he married Maria G. Medina. Mr. Hernandez formerly worked for the City of South Bend with the Street, Sewer, and Trash Departments. Along with his wife, Maria, survivors include four children, Vicente (Lani) D. Hernandez, Beatrice A. D. Hernandez, Jose Hernandez III, and Jason (Kim) Garza, all of South Bend; 10 grandchildren, Mikaela Hernandez, Annalise Hernandez, Paul C. Gutierrez Jr., Johnathon A. Hardy, Amelia Cuevas, Ani A. Hernandez, Antonio J. Hernandez, Stephen Garza, Gabriella Garza and Victoria Garza; two sisters, Manuela (Felipe) Hernandez of South Bend and Maria DeLaLuz (Candeliro) Jimenez of Abilene, TX; and one brother, Felipe (Brenda) Hernandez of New Carlisle. One sister, Sam Hernandez, preceded him in death.

There will be no funeral service. A private visitation will take place on Friday, June 27, 2008, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend.
