SOUTH BEND - Francisco S. Hernandez, 64, passed away on Saturday, September 13th, at 9:19 p.m. in Memorial Hospital. Francisco was born on March 11, 1944, in Brownsville, TX, to the late Enrique and Beatriz (Salas) Hernandez. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Enrique Jr.; sister, Esperanza Davis; and by a granddaughter, Bella Sohlke. On September 10, 1970, he married Maria Deleon, who survives along with their four children, Enedina Sohlke, Nelda Hernandez, Francisco (Josette Garcia) Hernandez Jr. and Israel Hernandez, all of South Bend; three grandchildren, Carolyn, Francisco III and Alexander; three sisters, Maria M. Canul of South Bend, Carmen (Ernesto) Garza of South Bend and Nestora (Ray) Torres of Breham, TX; and by four brothers, Juan (Maria) Hernandez, Robert (Sally) Hernandez, Lazaro (Maria) Hernandez and Ernesto Hernandez, all of South Bend. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Antonio Torres. Francisco served in the United States Army. He retired from the City of South Bend Park Department after 26 years. He loved bowling and landscaping. He enjoyed watching Western movies, baseball and football games. He was a Notre Dame fan.

ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, is assisting the family. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church.
