Mrs. Cora Herbster, age 75, wife of a former
South Bend merchant, died in her home in Long Beach, California,
Tuesday. She was ill a year. She was born in union
Township, St. Joseph County, November 16, 1868, and lived here
all her life until six years ago when she and her husband moved
to California. She married E. F. Herbster November 27,
1889, in South Bend. He was a shoe merchant, operating a
store and South Michigan Street near Sample Street for many
years. Mr. Herbster survives, and she also leaves two
daughters, Mrs. C. R. Carson of Long Beach, and Mrs. A. W.
Detling, of the city; one son, Edgar D. Herbster, also of South
Bend; one granddaughter, Mrs. Larry Cleary, of Los Angeles, CA;
one grandson, Miles W. Detling, of Cleveland, Ohio; four
great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. E. Grace Whitticar, of
this city. Her body, which is being sent to this city, will
go to the Hay funeral home. Mrs. Herbster was a member of
the Women's Benefit association of this city.
