Bernice M. Henthorn, 89, of Frances Street, South Bend, Ind., died on Monday, June 15, in her residence. Mrs. Henthorn was born on Jan. 8, 1909, in Mishawaka, Ind., to George and Deleda Sammet, and lived in this area her entire life. She retired from the United States Post Office.
On Nov. 21, 1936, in Mishawaka, she married James A. Henthorn, who preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1979. She was also preceded in death by a son, Patrick; her sister, Lauretta Kronewitter; and by two brothers, George Sammet and John Sammet. She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Williams, of Lansing, Mich.; and three sons, Timothy (Nancy) Henthorn of Mishawaka, Michael Henthorn and Terrance Henthorn, both of South Bend. She also is survived by six grandchildren, Mary Beth (Paul) Marchant of Redford, Mich., Sean Williams and Michael Williams of Lansing, Patrick Henthorn of Indianapolis and David Henthorn and Kevin Henthorn of Mishawaka.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend, where she was a member of the Altar Society and Harvest House. She also volunteered at the Faith Hope Charity Chapel.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the McGann Funeral Home on Edison, where the Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Joseph Parish Building Fund.
