SOUTH BEND - Violet M. Hensel, 86, of South Bend, IN,
passed away July 24, 2008, in the Cardinal Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center. Born December 2, 1921, in South Bend, IN,
she was the daughter of the late Earl and Flossie (Stiner)
Borton. On July 2, 1947, Violet married Clarence R.
Hensel, who preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded
in death by her sister, Clover Borton, and her brother, Russell
E. Borton. She is survived by a niece, Linda (Gordon) Miller
of Granger, and many friends at Zion United Church of Christ
where she was a longtime member and part of the Zion Young at
Heart Group. Violet was a gentle-hearted lady who loved to sing
and have people sing to her. While at Cardinal she enjoyed
participating in craft classes. Many will remember her fine
collection of salt and pepper shakers. When she lived in her home
she had many pets including dogs, cats, parakeets and goldfish.
As a small girl she loved fishing with her father. For most of
her life she was employed as a store clerk at Michiana Dry
Cleaners and Crystal Dry Cleaners.
A memorial service will be held today at
11:00 a.m. in the Zion United Church of Christ. A committal
service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Sumption Prairie Cemetery.
The McGann Hay, University Chapel, is handling arrangements.
