Rene Hennion, 87, of South Bend, died early today in the Ridgedale Nursing Home after a brief illness. A retired employee of the Bendix Corp., he was born Feb. 3, 1889 in Belgium and moved to South Bend in 1905. On June 3, 1909, in South Bend he married Elodie VanDeWalle, who died in April 1971. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs Helen Cook of Boyton Beach, Fla., and Sister Mary Claire OSU of Toledo, Ohio; two sons, George and Joseph, both of South Bend; nine grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday In St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Paul Wendell CSC, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the McGann Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Hennion was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Bendix Retiree Club.
