Raymond E. Hendrickson

SOUTH BEND - Raymond E. Hendrickson, 86, of South Bend, IN, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2007, in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. He retired in 1982 after 40 years of service at Uniroyal Corporation. Raymond was born on July 30, 1920, in Plymouth, IN, to Frederick and Esther (Moore) Hendrickson, and had been a lifelong area resident.

 

On August 17, 1941, in South Bend, IN, he married Frances L. (Leonard) Hendrickson, who preceded him in death on February 26, 2006. Raymond is survived by two daughters, Julia K. (Philip) Rotzien of Paw Paw, MI, and Valerie L. Hendrickson of Ladson, SC; two sons, Mark A. (Mary) Hendrickson of Gary, IN, and Bruce J. (Laurie) Hendrickson of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren, Stephen (Joanne) Smith, Julie (Bradford) Casper, Stephen (Christina) Moroney, Brian Moroney, Jared Rotzien, Carrie (Robert) Damron and Ryan Hendrickson; three great-grandchildren, Spencer Smith, Lindsey and Colin Moroney; and one sister, Betty Jean "Peg" Webb of South Bend. A grandson, Philip Rotzien, and one brother, Herbert Hendrickson, preceded him in death.

 

Raymond served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion #303 and River Park United Methodist Church, South Bend. Raymond was a water safety instructor, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and a regular blood donor. He enjoyed carpentry, fishing and gardening.

 

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 10, 2007, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Nancy Cook, spiritual advisor from Hospice, will officiate. A private burial of Raymond's cremated remains will take place at Christie Lake Cemetery, Lawrence, MI, which is near his summer cottage where he enjoyed many special times. Friends may call two hours prior to services on Saturday in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Raymond E. Hendrickson may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 922 E.
