Marvin James Hemminger, 75 years old, who resided at 570 Beebe Road, Niles, passed away May 29, 2001, at 7:40 p.m. while a patient at Valparaiso Care and Rehabilitation Center, Valparaiso, Ind., after an illness of several months.
Marvin was born Oct. 31, 1925, in Mishawaka, IN, the son of the late Chester M. and Maggie Flavis (Gill) Hemminger. He moved to the Niles area in 1942 with his parents, and was married Feb. 4, 1948, in Edwardsburg to Theda D. Brandon, who survives. He has four children who survive, Shirley (husband, Gary) Merihew of Niles and Barb (husband, Scott) Quimby of Edwardsburg, Tommy (wife, LaDonna) Hemminger of South Bend and James Hemminger of Elkhart. There are six grandchildren, Mary Ann, Curtis, Michael, Tommy Jr., Kenneth and Robert; also, four step-grandchildren, Susan, Michael, Troy and Robert; and five great-grandchildren, Celiena, Shirley, Kenneth, Isaac and Tommy.
Marvin was a retired pattern press operator with Simplicity Pattern Company of Niles having worked for over 40 years. He was the sexton for Smith Chapel Cemetery for many years, until he retired from his sexton work a few years ago.
Services will be at 2 p.m. (Michigan time) at Smith Chapel Church on Redfield Road. Officiating will be Rev. Bob Jackson, pastor of First Church of God of Niles. Burial will be at Smith Chapel Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. (Michigan time) and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be given to Cass County Cancer Services, P.O.
