William L. Heminger, 85, residing on Renfrew Drive, South Bend, Indiana, died at 7:10 PM Thursday, February 13, 2003 at St. Paul's Health Care Center, South Bend.  He retired in 1980 from Torrington company after 34 years of service.  Mr. Heminger was born on March 31, 1917, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to James Walter and Hazel [Herbster] Heminger and was a lifelong area residents.  On August 29, 1980, in South Bend, Indiana, he married Astrid Voreis who survives.

Surviving along with his loving wife, Astrid Heminger, of South Bend, are a daughter, Gail [Ronald] Cunningham of Columbia, South Carolina; a son, Thomas [Kathleen] Heminger of South Bend; three stepsons, Richard [Catherine] Voreis of Dallas, Texas, Charles [Francine] Voreis of South Bend and Kent [Sandy]Voreis of South Bend; three grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Hollingsworth of Osceola, Indiana; and a brother, Raymond [Ann] Heminger of Elkhart, Indiana.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Eugene and Robert Heminger.

Mr. Heminger was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, South Bend; St. Joseph Lodge No. 45 F. & AM; Anxious and Excepted Scottish Rite, York Rite; Orak Shrine of Michigan City and DFW Post 360 -- Mishawaka.  He served in United States Air Force during World War II.  Mr. Heminger enjoyed golf, traveling and his volunteer work at St. Paul's Retirement Community.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, February 17, 2003, at Zion United Church of Christ, 715 East Wayne Street, South Bend, Indiana.  Dr. Bill Wassner will officiate.  Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.  The family will receive friends from 2 -- 6 PM Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home -- River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend.  Masonic services will be held at 3 PM Sunday in the funeral home.

Contributions in memory of William Heminger may be given to Zion United Church of Christ.
