Astrid I. Voreis Heminger, age 84, residing on Refrew Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5:15 a.m. Friday, April 4, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, where she was admitted on Thursday.
She was born May 20, 1918, in Culver, Ind., as the daughter of Gustaf and Linnea (Borin) Swanson. She lived in South Bend since 1951, coming from Culver.
On Jan. 19, 1941, in Culver, she married Glenn W. Voreis, who passed away in February of 1975. Then on Aug. 29, 1980, in South Bend, she married William L. Heminger. He preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 2003. She is survived by three sons, Kent (Sandy) Voreis and Charles (Francine) Voreis, both of South Bend, and Richard (Kathryn) Voreis of Dallas, Texas; a stepdaughter, Gail (Raymond) Cunningham of Columbia, S.C.; a stepson, Thomas (Kathleen) Heminger of South Bend; and by eight grandchildren.
Mrs. Heminger served as a distributor for Vanda Beauty Counselor Cosmetics for 37 years. She has been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Plymouth Chapter #26 since 1936, where she was also a Past Worthy Matron; a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Avalon Grotto; Zion United Church of Christ and the Women's Guild of the Church. She was also an avid Bridge Card player.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, in Zion United Church of Christ, 715 E. Wayne St., South Bend. Rev. John von Lackum, pastor, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, where members of Plymouth Chapter #26, OES, will conduct a memorial service at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services Monday in the church. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Heminger may be offered to Zion United Church of Christ.
