SOUTH BEND - Geri L. Helling, 70, of
17344 Fergus Drive, died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in her home after
an illness. Mrs. Helling was born July 1, 1925, in Elwood City,
Pa., and lived in South Bend since 1952.
On Jan. 13, 1951, in Elwood City, as Geri L.
McDevitt, she married Joseph Helling. He survives with two
daughters, Cindy Chandler of Osceola and Nancy Gargula
of Indianapolis; a son, Doug of Cary, N.C.; five grandchildren;
her mother, Martha McDevitt of Elwood City; a sister,
Marilyn Wiltrout of Elwood City; and three brothers,
Donald McDevitt, Allen McDevitt, and Larry McDevitt, all of
Elwood City. A son, Joseph, died in 1981. She was a member of
Women's Society and Women's Auxiliary, both of St. Pius X
Catholic Church, Granger, a member of Indiana State Bar
Association Auxiliary, St. Joseph County Bar Association
Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and was a
volunteer for the Family & Children's Center, Mishawaka.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in
the church. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial
Park, Granger. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in
Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, where the
parish rosary will be said at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions
may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc.
