Richard A. "Dick" Helfrich,
51, of 59741 Wren Lane, South Bend, Ind., died after a brief
illness at 2:40 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, in St. Joseph's Medical
Center. Dick was born on Aug. 18, 1947, in South Bend, to Ronald
B. and Ruth L. (Plant) Helfrich.
On June 4, 1977, in South Bend, he married
Carol Miller. He is survived by his wife, Carol Helfrich
of South Bend; two sons, Michael Helfrich and Andy Helfrich, both
at home; his mother, Ruth Helfrich of South Bend; two brothers,
Tom Helfrich of New Jersey and Jim Helfrich of South Bend; and by
two sisters, Susan (Byron) DeLee of South Bend and Mary
(Don) Melton of Chesterton, Ind. He was preceded in death
by his father; and by a daughter, Amy Ruth Helfrich. Dick was the
operations manager for AGA Welding. He was a Viet Nam veteran
having serviced with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the
Mishawaka Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360.
Funeral services for Richard A.
"Dick" Helfrich will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday in
the Grace United Methodist Church in South Bend. Rev. Hosea Drake
will officiate. Burial will take place in Southlawn Cemetery,
South Bend. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today
in the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan
St., South Bend. The family requests that donations in memory of
Dick be made to the Intensive Care Unit of St. Joseph's Medical
Center in South Bend.
