Loretta M. Helak, 69, of the Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of the Lakeshore Estates in Mishawaka, Ind., died following an illness at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, in the rehabilitation center. Miss Helak was born on Oct. 27, 1927, in South Bend, to William and Sophie (Wiatrolik) Helak, and was a lifelong area resident. She was employed as a designer with the Wygant Floral Company until 1992.
Miss Helak is survived by her two brothers, Leon (Lucille) Helak and Donald (Alvina) Helak, both of South Bend; and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Sophie Helak, and by her sister, Geraldine Helak.
Miss Helak was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Parish, the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary of the church, and the Daughters of Isabella Notre Dame Circle 572.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 112 N.
