Clyde J. "Pokey" Heintzelman, 83, residing on Brush Trail, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 11 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, in his residence from natural causes. Mr. Heintzelman was born Nov. 16, 1920, in South Bend, to the late Oscar Henry and Alma M. (Pittman) Heintzelman. He had remained a lifelong resident of South Bend.
On March 16, 1940, in South Bend, he married the former Elaine Crawford, who preceded him in death on March 12, 1987. One sister, Elayne Palmer; and three brothers, Walter, Harry Richard and Howard Heintzelman, all preceded him in death. Mr. Heintzelman is survived by two daughters, Eleanor "Bunny" and Mike Swanson of South Bend, and Connie and Joe Palermo of Palm Coast, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Heintzelman served his country during World War II with the United States Navy. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, South Bend. Mr. Heintzelman retired from the sheet metal industry.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Ed Erskin, pastor of Northway Church of Christ, South Bend, will officiate. Private burial will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services Wednesday in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Clyde J.
