Fern C. Heckaman, 97, of St. Paul's Retirement Community, died at 2:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the health care center of the community. She was born on May 20, 1901 in Swayzee, Ind. to John and Emma (Heiser) Henderson.

In South Bend, Ind., as Fern C. Henderson, she married Roscoe Heckaman. He died on Aug. 19, 1962. She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis M. (Bruce) Sill of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Jane E. Nemeth of South Bend. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Jeanne Nemeth, J. Nemeth, Cathy Doolittle, Suzanne Pfenninger, Scott Sill, John Sill and Dennis Sill; and by eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood, with Rev. Kendall Dahlstrom officiating. Interment will follow in Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth, Ind. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday in the funeral home.
