Rev. Kerndt Healy CSC, 68, secretary
of the Holy Cross Fathers Provincial Council for the last 22
years, died at 7 p.m. Sunday in Corby Hall on the University of
Notre Dame campus, where he resided. He was graduated from Notre
Dame in 1915. Prior to that he attended schools in Fort Dodge,
Iowa, where he was born on July 30, 1892.
He entered the novitiate of the Congregation
of Holy Cross on Sept. 8, 1916. After that he studied at Holy
Cross College and Catholic University of America, both in
Washington, DC, and also at Harvard University. On June 10, 1921
Father Healy made his final profession of vows. He was ordained
in Sacred Heart Church at Notre Dame on June 26 that year. From
1921-28 Father Healy was assistant editor of the Ave Maria
magazine and professor of English at Notre Dame. He served as
master of novices at Notre Dame and Rolling Prairie from 1928 to
1937. From 1937 until 1950 he specialized in Shakespearean works
at Notre Dame. He served as assistant provincial from 1940 to
1945. He is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Joseph Black of
Glencoe, Ill., Mrs. Carl Mangelsdorf of Rock Island, Ill.,
Mrs. Ruth Coughlin of Fort Dodge, and Mrs. John J. Rourke
Jr. of Providence, R.I.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. today in Corby
Hall. The Office of the Dead will be recited at 5 p.m. Tuesday in
Sacred Heart Church, with Rev. Bernard Mullahy CSC, assistant
provincial, officiating. A solemn requiem mass will be celebrated
at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Church by Very Rev.
Theodore Mehling CSC, Holy Cross Fathers Provincial.
