MISHAWAKA - David Howard Healey, 61, passed away peacefully at
6:10 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, in his home after a nearly
year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on August
21, 1948, in Charlotte, Michigan, to Howard Benson and Majel
(Dorriell) Healey. David was employed as a security guard at
University Park Mall in Mishawaka. He was a U.S. Army veteran and
received a Bachelor and Master's degree from IUSB. He was a
founding member of the Civil Rights Heritage Center at IUSB and
Director of the Oral History Project. On August 4, 2006, in
Mishawaka, Indiana, David married the former Kathy A. (Grall)
Strycker. She survives in Mishawaka, IN. Also surviving are his
mother, Majel (Dorroel) Healey of Apopka, FL; sister, Mary Ann
(Joe) Hines of Apopka, FL; son, Matt Healey of Mishawaka, IN;
daughter, Josette (Kenny) Herrick of Orlando, FL; stepdaughters,
Michelle (Robert) Case of Mishawaka, IN, and Sarah Strycker of
Elkhart, IN; stepson, Bob Strycker of South Bend, IN;
father-in-law, Bob Grall of Mishawaka, IN; nine grandchildren,
Abagail, Quinlan, Wesley, Katelyn, Cameron, Evan, Dominick, Emily
and Noah; and close friends, Amy and Bill Zimmer. David was
preceded in death by his father, Howard Benson Healey; a brother,
Gerald Healey; and by a sister, Janet Wanzer. A Celebration of
Life Service will be held at a later date. Elkhart Cremation
Services is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial
contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and
Palliative Care Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Lustgarten
Foundation.
