Samuel N. Hay, 71, of Main Street,
South Bend, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, May 9. Mr. Hay was born
on March 15, 1929, in South Bend, to David Cole and Lucile (Norris)
Hay. He was a graduate of Central High School. He served in the
Army during the Korean Conflict. After Mr. Hay's military service
he began to work with his family in their business, Kuert
Concrete. He also worked in the advertising business for some
time in Chicago. Mr. Hay designed and built a concrete boat, the
"Floating Stone," which he sailed from Michigan City
via the Mississippi and docked in Sanibel Island, Fla. He resided
on the "Floating Stone" there for over seven years. Mr.
Hay was a volunteer for Pear's Mill in Buchanan, Mich. He is
survived by a brother, David C. Hay, Jr., of Granger, Ind.; and
by four nephews, David, John, Michael and Thomas Hay.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today, May 12, in
the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, located at Ironwood and
Jefferson. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Family and
friends may call from noon until time of services today in the
funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of
Samuel N. Hay to Pear's Mill, c/o Buchanan Preservation, Inc.,
Buchanan, MI.
