Nancy Carolyn (Fassnacht) Hay, 77, of Granger, Ind., entered into eternal peace at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the Hospice House of St. Joseph County. Carolyn was a lifelong South Bend, Ind., resident. She was born May 29, 1924, in South Bend, to Paul W. and Rosetta M. (McHenry) Fassnacht, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Rodney; and by her brother, John Fassnacht, an Army Air Corps pilot killed in action on his 25th mission during World War II.

 

On March 31, 1951, in South Bend, she married David Cole Hay Jr., who survives. She is also survived by their four sons, David C. Hay of Mishawaka, Ind., John C. (Ann) Hay of Fort Wayne, Ind., Tom C . (Laura) Hay of Hartsdale, N.Y., and Michael C. (Mickey) Hay of South Bend; and by four grandchildren, Chelsea Hay of Bloomington, Ind., Whitney Hay of South Bend, Jeremiah and Cassandra Hay of Hartsdale.

 

Carolyn was a Central High School graduate, class of 1942. She was an avid golfer and tennis player. She was several times City of South Bend tennis champion in both singles and doubles. She was a loving, caring, generous philanthropist who will be sorely missed by all her family and friends. Carolyn was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of South Bend.

 

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in the FOREST G. HAY FUNERAL HOME.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, in the funeral home. Rev. Daniel Berger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of South Bend, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
