Jan. 21, 1913 - March 31, 2010NILES - Stanley J. Hawblitzel, 97, of Niles, MI, formerly of Argos, IN, and South Bend, IN, passed away at 9:38 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Your Home Assisted Living in South Bend. He was born on January 21, 1913, to the late Elmer and Daisy (Whitmer) Hawblitzel in South Bend, IN, and had lived in Niles, MI, since 2006, coming from Argos, IN. Along with his parents two sisters, Audrey Tilden and Marie Baughman, and two brothers, Kenneth and William Hawblitzel, also preceded him in death. Mr. Hawblitzel retired in 1978 from Allied Signal, where he worked as a metal finisher. Prior to that, he worked at Studebaker's. On December 26, 1933, he married Helen E. Penkala in South Bend, IN. She died on July 27, 1972. He is survived by four daughters, Shirley Anderson of Dunedin, FL, Audrey (Robert) Snider of Niles, MI, Beverly (Bennett) Querry of Kokomo, IN, Betty (Gary) Ikuma of Springfield, VA; four sons, Donald (Nancy) Hawblitzel of Orlando, FL, Eugene (Marilyn) Hawblitzel of Floral City, FL, John (Kathy) Hawblitzel of Alma, AR, Kenneth Hawblitzel of Bakersfield, CA; 18 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren. Stanley attended Calvary Baptist Church in South Bend, IN. He was mechanically inclined and loved fixing things. Stanley also enjoyed gardening and remodeling homes. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN, with Pastor Reed Anderstrom officiating. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.
