Vaughn M. ''Peg'' Hastings, 93, of Springfield, Ill., formerly of East Wayne Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 11:49 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, in the Regency Nursing Home, Springfield. Mrs. Hastings was born on Dec. 1, 1904, to James and Mary (Cornelison) O'Neal in Keensburg, Ill., and lived in South Bend from 1925 to 1996 before moving to Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by five sisters and a brother.

On Dec. 31, 1924, in Indianapolis, Ind., as Vaughn M. O'Neal, she married William H. Hastings, D.D.S., who also preceded her in death on May 24, 1984. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Lasch of Springfield and Suzanne Liss of Hollywood, Calif.; and by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hastings was a member of the Alpha Chapter of the Thalia Sorority and was a former member of the First Christian Church of South Bend and the Morris Park Country Club.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, with Dr. William Wassner of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home.
