SOUTH BEND - Mr. Hamilton Tyrone Haskel, a resident of Coleman
Drive, South Bend, Indiana was called from labor to reward on
Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Lakeland Hospital, Niles, Michigan at
the age of 74. On June 3, 1936, in Laurel, Mississippi, Hamilton
was born to Arthur Lee Hutton and Ida Bell Davis. Hamilton was
reared in Laurel graduating from Oak Park High School in 1952.
From 1953 until 1959, Sgt. Hamilton Haskel served in the United
States Army completing two tours of duty in the Korean War. He
was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. Coming from Laurel,
he moved to South Bend in 1960 and in the following year on
January 16, 1961, he married Eleanor Moran in Dowagiac, Michigan.
Mr. Haskel's employment record includes: The Oliver Corporation
as a welder and electronic engineer by trade; The Dodge
Corporation; South Bend Stamping; Steel Warehouse where he was
president of the union; Uniroyal; St. Joseph's Hospital as a lab
technician; and for nine years as a machinist for Modineer. Among
his favorite pastimes was spending quality time with his
grandson, Bryan, fishing, cooking, gardening, engineering, math
and cars. He was an ardent fan of football, baseball and boxing.
In addition to loving nature, Mr. Haskel was a smart,
academic-minded person who always pushed his children to be the
best and he was often known to say, "Always finish what you
start and don't ever stop!" Also spiritually- minded, he was
an integral part of the congregation of New Generations Christian
Ministries as a Deacon and member of the Board of Directors.
Loving family members who survive to cherish his memory include
his wife, Eleanor; four daughters, Deborah (Johnny) Bender of
Laurel, Mississippi, Angela Haskel - Porter, Lisa Haskel and
Pamela Haskel, all of South Bend, Indiana; two sons, Ronald Gavin
of Laurel, Mississippi and Tony (Anita) Haskel of Indianapolis,
Indiana; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and his
sister Gwendolyn (Johnny) Lee of Los Angeles, California, along
with other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death along
with his parents was Arthur Lee Hutton and Ida Bell Davis; was a
daughter, Barbara Elaine Haskel; and a son, Brian Haskel.
Services for Mr. Haskel will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, June
29, 2010 at New Generations Christian Ministries. Interment will
follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call Monday evening from
6 - 8:00 p.m. at Alford's Mortuary where arrangements have been
